The Feldenkrais Method® and Who Benefits

Feldenkrais Method

Discover the Feldenkrais® Method

Awareness Through Movement® — a gentle, intelligent way to restore freedom in body and mind.

The Feldenkrais Method is a somatic approach to learning through movement, using both hands-on teaching and guided lessons. You’re encouraged to make the movement smaller or simpler so you can truly sense what’s happening as you move. Each lesson builds gradually, giving you time to stay curious about your experience rather than pushing for a result. As you become more aware of your patterns, new options for easier, more coordinated movement often emerge.

How the Feldenkrais® Method Works

In Feldenkrais® lessons, you’re invited to notice how you organize yourself in movement. Through slow, simple explorations that gradually develop into more complex ones, you begin to sense patterns that may have been outside of awareness—how you use your skeleton for support, how you manage effort, and how you respond to gravity.

There is no “right” way to do a lesson. The learning comes from noticing differences and making connections, not from pushing or performing. At times, lessons can feel challenging, especially when they invite a different way of learning—one that relies less on effort and more on awareness.

As understanding deepens, movement often becomes easier and more coordinated. Change arises through clarity and attention rather than effort, creating conditions for learning that can carry into everyday movement and activity.

Healing Through Awareness

Pain and limitation often arise from patterns we repeat without realizing it. Feldenkrais® lessons help bring these habits into awareness—how we brace, protect, hold, or interrupt movement—so that more coordinated and supportive options can be explored.

As movement becomes better organized and effort decreases, people often experience greater comfort and an increased sense of stability. This clarity can support not only physical ease, but also a steadier relationship with sensation, emotion, and daily demands.

Movement Beyond the Body

The awareness cultivated in Feldenkrais® lessons naturally carries into everyday life. As you learn how to notice, make connections, and coordinate your actions more clearly, you become less automatic and more present.

This presence supports greater adaptability—in movement, attention, and relationship. How you sit, stand, walk, listen, and respond can begin to shift, not through force, but through understanding.

Experience It for Yourself

If you’d like to explore this work firsthand, I offer individual and group sessions. It’s an opportunity to slow down, sense yourself more clearly, and discover what becomes possible when awareness guides change.

Who We Help

Who Can Benefit from Movement Matters

Unconscious movement patterns can make everyday motion less efficient. At Movement Matters, Lindy uses the Feldenkrais Method to guide individuals and groups, offering personalized sessions for one-on-one or relationship coaching. Participants explore mindful movement, improve ease and awareness, and integrate new patterns into daily life.

01

Infants & Children

Lindy works with infants, children, and adolescents to support coordination, balance, and motor skill development. Early movement patterns shape how children move, play, and engage with the world, and supportive, gentle guidance helps them develop coordination, confidence, and ease as they grow.

02

Performance & Health

Performers, athletes, and individuals with orthopedic or neurological concerns explore ways to restore ease, reduce unnecessary effort, and improve coordination. Sessions support recovery, help difficult movements feel more manageable, and expand options for both performance and daily function.

03

Pain, Trauma & Stress Relief

Many people come to this work because they are living with pain, stress, or the effects of injury or trauma. Through increased awareness and/or guided movement, sessions help bring attention to patterns of tension and effort that may be contributing to discomfort. Over time, people often experience greater ease, improved comfort, and an increased ability to rest and respond to daily demands.

04

Relationship Support

Adults seek relationship support when communication feels strained, emotions run high, or familiar patterns keep repeating. This work offers a grounded space to slow down and notice how you relate—how you respond under stress, what you protect, and what shapes your interactions. Through increased awareness and thoughtful inquiry, new options for connection become available, supporting clearer communication, greater emotional presence, and more authentic relationships.
